Engineering Entrepreneurship
In the engineering entrepreneurship (E-SHIP) program, students from many majors learn how to create new and innovative products, services, and businesses. Entrepreneurs seek out opportunities, secure and employ resources, and provide leadership to create something of value. Apply this entrepreneurial mindset to:
- champion product, software, or service ideas to stakeholders, including partners, employees, customers, investors, and management
- manage ambiguity, one of the most critical skills for an entrepreneur
- learn the process and systems to solve business challenges
Since its inception in 2002, the engineering entrepreneurship program has graduated hundreds of students from many majors that have gone on to create their own startups or become successful entrepreneurial leaders within existing organizations. Join us and add your name to this successful group of alumni.
The program is taught by faculty with real-world business startup experience including a traffic technology startup with an internet of things (IoT) focus, an environmental engineering firm, a manufacturer of scientific instruments, one of the early network equipment companies, national retail and manufacturing optical company, an international oil and gas exploration, and production company as well as PR and marketing firms.
Product Innovation Focus
Our product innovation focus offers students practice in developing and launching mechanical and electronic products, software applications, software as a service offering, and service businesses. The program covers the Internet of Things and the implications of subscription services on product development and business operations. The courses support the development of both consumer-based and business-to-business products and services. It is designed for any undergraduate student interested in being an innovation leader in an existing or new business.
